Technological mastery without ethical restraint lies at the root of all forms of tyranny

Current technological developments have the power to determine the future for all 7.8 billion people. This naturally raises the question of what that future should be. What is right? What principles are we to follow and what life is worth living? Given a wide array of cultural, social, political, and historical factors those questions are seldom straightforward. The questions, though complex and difficult, often prove very familiar philosophically.

In this WEDF 2021 panel, Dr. Michael Klenk, Professor of Philosophy at Delft University of Technology, and Dr. Simon Longstaff, The Executive Director of the Ethics Centre came together to discuss and navigate the range of ethical questions raised by the use of data and data-driven technologies.
